Charmed Finds Its New Co-Lead for Season 4
Australian actor Lucy Barrett is joining the CW's Charmed reboot in Season 4 as the new "Charmed One" following Madeleine Mantock's exit in Season 3.
The CW announced it has found its new “Charmed One” in Australian actor Lucy Barrett, who will star alongside Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery in the upcoming fourth season of the network’s Charmed reboot.
Barrett will succeed Madeleine Mantock, who played co-lead Macy Vaughn and exited the series in the third season, according to Deadline. The actor is best known for her roles as Hayley Hahn in the Australian soap opera Neighbours (2014-2016), Vita in the 2018 series Co-Ed and Isabella Webb in the 2020 series Bloom.
“Her name, backstory, powers, and connection to Mel and Maggie are being kept under wraps, because…well…it’s just more fun that way,” new showrunners Jeffery Lieber, Nicki Renna and Joey Falco said in a statement. “What we will say is…she’s an artist, with a wild, unpredictable love for life and a one-of-a-kind view of the world that serves her well in her art, which is her life’s passion.”
The trio further described Barrett’s character as “fun, irreverent, impulsive [and] strong-willed” and promised that the new witch “will bring a brand-new energy to the Power of Three.”
Fans will recall that Macy was introduced in Season 1 as the long-lost sister of Mel and Maggie Vera. Mantock confirmed in July that she would not be returning to the series in Season 4, saying at the time, “Playing Macy on Charmed for the last three seasons has been an immense privilege and I have so enjoyed working with our fantastic producers, creatives, cast and crew. I’m incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support in my difficult decision to leave. Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular fourth season.”
Mantock made her final appearance as Macy in the Season 3 finale (“I Dreamed a Dream…”) when she sacrificed herself in order to defeat the Whispering Evil and save the world.
Charmed stars Sarah Jeffery, Melonie Diaz, Lucy Barrett, Rupert Evans, Jordan Donica, Poppy Drayton, Mareya Salazar and JJ Hawkins. Season 3 came to a close on July 23, but the show will return with Season 4 in January 2022.
