What Robert Pattinson Thinks About Twilight (And It’s Not Good)

Twihards may still have major love for the Twilight films, but Robert Pattinson certainly doesn't.

Throughout movie history, there have been a handful of franchises that have come around and completely turned the world on its head. While some of these series have been great for the fans and the stars alike (most of which remain totally binge-worthy today), others have wound up famous for all the wrong reasons. Twihards may still have major love for the Twilight films and perhaps are even still looking up cool behind-the-scenes facts about them, but the vampire craze as a whole has died down in recent years.

When looking back at these movies and the sheer mayhem they caused for the stars over the course of their releases, one thing has been made very clear: Robert Pattinson does NOT like Twilight. The actor has starred in both successes and flops throughout his career and even though the Twilight franchise earned him the most, he’s had (mostly) negative things to say about it. Here’s what we know about Pattinson’s feelings towards the vampire tale.

15 He Doesn’t Understand The Fans

While speaking with Vanity Fair, Pattinson discussed his view on the Twihards. “I can’t really understand it even now. It does have an angle which is attached to something quite primal in girls. I guess people want it to define them, like, ‘I’m a Twilight fan.’ That’s crazy to me. I think people really just like being part of a crowd.”

14 He Thinks A lot Of The Story Is Crazy, Especially The Birthing Scene

In another interview, this time with WOIO, Pattinson talked about some of the weirder storylines from his perspective. “A lot of stuff in the Twilight world doesn’t make any sense.” He elaborated, “It’s nuts…I had to give her a cesarean by chewing through a placenta. I don’t know the medical—how it works. But there was definitely chewing through something. No, it’s wild.”

13 He Revealed That Participating In Twilight Limited Other Acting Options

In a 2011 interview with Vanity Fair, Pattinson talked about life as an actor after being part of such a global phenomenon. “Having a persona people recognize, it’s the thing that probably gets you paid the most—but it’s also the thing that virtually every actor in the world doesn’t want. Cause, like, no one would believe me if I wanted to play something ultra-realistic, like, a gangster or something.”

12 Pattinson Confessed That If He Hadn’t Been Part Of The Franchise, He’d Just Mindlessly Hate It

Before the world got a glimpse at Breaking Dawn Part 1, the cast sat down for an interview with Moviefone. They were asked whether or not they’d be fans of the story if they weren’t so close to it. Pattinson replied “I think I am a judgmental and cynical person who would just mindlessly hate it without having seen anything; I just think I’m a bad person.”

11 He Had Issues Representing Something He Didn’t Like

One would think that at least while the movies were still coming out, Pattinson might refrain from being so openly negative, but alas, he did not. According to W Magazine, Pattinson told Vanity Fair “There’s nothing you can do about it. That’s the way it is. But it is weird being part of that, kind of representing something you don’t particularly like.”

10 He Joked About Losing His Dignity To The Franchise

It’s not uncommon for actors to take souvenirs home from the sets of their favorite projects. So, when the question arose in the previously mentioned WOIO interview about whether or not Pattinson had taken home any momentos, the star simply replied “My dignity.” Seriously, how did this guy not get fired?!

He Did NOT Make Watching The Movies A Priority

Pattinson and co-star Taylor Lautner sat down with Ellen DeGeneres after the release of their final film. As fans know, the movie concluded with a rather shocking ending (one that did not match what was in the books). When Ellen mentioned the twist ending, Pattinson revealed he had no idea, since he, of course, had never bothered to watch it himself.

The Series Coming To An End Was Harder On The Fans Than On Him

Considering Rob spent so many years attached to this franchise, one might think the end would be a bittersweet moment for the guy. However, as we learned during an interview he did with Jimmy Fallon, it was not. The talk show host said “It’s a little bit heartbreaking because [the fans] don’t want it to be over. It’s a little bittersweet, isn’t it” A chuckling Pattinson shot back “um… for them!”

After Reading The First Book, He Thought It Was Something That Shouldn’t Have Been Published

Well, this one’s got to hurt author Stephenie Meyer’s feelings a bit. According to BuzzFeed, Pattinson was quoted during an interview saying, “When I first read it, it seemed like… a book that wasn’t supposed to be published.” It’s truly mind-blowing that he even landed this gig, let alone accepted it!

He’s Not Convinced Bella Had The Right Belly For The Pregnancy Reveal Scene

In another hilarious take on the franchise by its leading man, Robert Pattinson discussed one of his “favorite” scenes. “I love that bit when Kristen reveals that she thinks she’s pregnant for the first time in front of the mirror and she’s like ‘oh my God’ and she looks at her completely flat stomach.” This according to BuzzFeed.

He Feels Like He Stopped Mentally Progressing When He Started The Movies

According to BuzzFeed, Robert Pattinson once sat through an interview where he openly admitted that he stopped mentally progressing when he started the role. “I feel like I kind of stopped mentally progressing around the time I started doing these movies. It’s like not a day has passed.” Keep in mind, this interview went down 10 years after the franchise kicked off.

He Doesn’t Think The Story Is Very Romantic

It’s true that the main selling point of this franchise is the supposedly epic romance between Edward and Bella. However, Pattinson himself does not think the story as a whole is all that romantic. As he stated in an interview “Everyone’s just like ‘Oh, it’s such a fairytale romance.’ And it’s like, this seems like a nightmare!”

He Thinks The Notebook Is A Better Romance

While speaking with Variety, Pattinson explained his view. “‘The Notebook is very sweet and heartbreaking, but Twilight is about this guy, and he finds the one girl he wants to be with, and he also wants to eat her. I mean, not eat her, but drink her blood or whatever. It’s not that other people are telling them they can’t be together, it’s his own body telling him that.”

Initially, He Was Convinced Stephenie Meyer Thought She Was Bella

During an interview with E!, Robert Pattinson discussed his initial reactions to the first book. Apart from thinking the book shouldn’t have been published, he also stated “I was convinced Stephenie was convinced she was Bella. I was just like, ‘This woman is mad. She’s completely mad.'” We’re assuming the author wasn’t happy about this remark…

Now That The Craze Has Died Down, His Opinions Have Become More Positive

In a more recent interview with USA Today, Pattinson revealed that since the craze has died down, he can look back on things a bit differently. “It’s lovely now that the mania is not so intense. Only scary part was right in the thick of it all, when it was very, very intense.”
