‘Sons of Anarchy’ Gets Mobile Game in ‘The Prospect’

'Sons of Anarchy' fans have a new game to look forward to in 'The Prospect,' recently announced for mobile platforms.

With the TV show riding along to its final episode later this month, fans of Sons of Anarchy are sure to be hungry for more content related to Fox’s record-setting cable program. Those who own smartphones and tablets might get exactly what they’re looking for, because Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect was just unveiled as a tie-in title – taking place in the same universe as Jax Teller and his SAMCRO brothers. Granted, it’ll be in a different town, with a different charter, but riding along with patched members of the club has always been the main point.

Showrunner Kurt Sutter had intended to bring the game to consoles years ago, but talks fell through with prospective developers. He confirmed that a Sons of Anarchy game was definitely still happening almost a year ago, and seemed confident that it would impress longtime fans of the show. Things were quiet ever since, but now that the show itself is reaching the end of the road, the game was finally unveiled – although it was confirmed as a mobile-only title, as opposed to Sutter’s initial console ambitions.

Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect will be an episodic series, which is something Telltale Games products like The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones have made popular amongst TV show fans. Episodes will be released gradually throughout the season, though the developers have kept quiet on how how many episodes will be included in the first season. Hopefully, the developers will be able to stick to a release schedule, with the first episode scheduled for an early 2015 release.

The studio didn’t announce any details about the storyline of the game or where it will take place, except that the charter and location will be new to the series. The show itself has mentioned a copious amount of potential charters ranging from Alaska and Alberta all the way over to Sweden and Poland. Suffice to say, Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect could take place almost anywhere in the world, though it would make sense for the game to remain in the United States so that special appearances by cast members might be in the cards.

The game will be developed by Orpheus Interactive and Silverback Games, both of which are located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This will be the first title for Orpheus Interactive, and the website may have inadvertently slipped a sneak peak of their debut title. When talking about the creative tools in their arsenal, the studio posted a screenshot of a highway and game assets including ‘Playerbike’, which seems ominous considering their sole title in development is Sons of Anarchy:

There’s no official screenshots or trailers yet, but fans should expect a more enticing visual presence to pop up within the next two months. The studios haven’t said whether the game will be open-world or a strictly linear narrative, but ports like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas proved that mobile phones can handle the stress of open-world sandbox games. That said, it’s a big ask for a studio’s first official foray into the market. With the show itself heading into the season finale next week, fans will be hungry for new content – the time is perfect for a tie-in title, which can hopefully deliver the shocking narrative Kurt Sutter and his creative team has led fans to be accustomed to.

What do you think about a mobile Sons of Anarchy game, Ranters? Would you have preferred them to try a console spinoff, or are you weary about TV-turned-game content in general?
