Jensen Ackles Uses Twilight To Defend Not Seeing The Batman

Supernatural's Jensen Ackles has a very funny response about not having seen The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, yet.

Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has a very funny response about why he hasn’t seen The Batman yet. One of DC Comics’ superheroes to have been reimagined the most in live-action is the Dark Knight himself, and 2022 became the year for yet another new take on the hero. Following Ben Affleck’s Batman in the DCEU, Warner Bros. rebooted the character’s franchise outside the cinematic universe as a standalone property. With director Matt Reeves behind it, The Batman became the latest iteration of Gotham City’s terror-striking vigilante, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne.

While not doing a traditional origin story of his path to becoming a hero, The Batman instead took a different approach by doing a “Year 2” story — as a nod to Batman: Year One — by showing Bruce as a not-entirely-new crime fighter. It served as a way of not having to show the death of the Waynes and Bruce training to become Batman. Despite that, Pattinson’s incarnation is still a work in progress, with The Batman franchise aiming to get him closer to becoming the DC legend that fans know and love from the comics. With the addition of Pattinson’s take on Batman, he joins a long list of actors to have brought the icon to life outside the books.

Following The Batman’s release in theaters last month, a fellow Batman actor has chimed in on whether or not he has seen the DC reboot. During Supernatural NJ Con 2022 (via RhiannonNymph). Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins were both present for a panel that included a Q&A with fans. At one point, Collins asked Ackles whether or not he had seen The Batman, with the latter having quite the humorous response. While Ackles hasn’t seen it yet, the Supernatural and The Boys star took a funny little jab at Pattinson, whose breakout role was the vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, with the conversation going as follows:

COLLINS: Did you see the latest Batman movie?

COLLINS: It was kind of great!

ACKLES: I know, I know…I’m not ready to invite another Batman into my world!

COLLINS: Is it because you are also a Batman?

ACKLES: Yes it is, alright?! It is! It’s a sensitive subject! Us other Batmen, we’re a little hesitant to invite new ones in!

COLLINS: I get it, that makes sense!

ACKLES: Especially if you used to be a vampire…

Ackles, who is best known for portraying Dean Winchester for 15 seasons on Supernatural, is no stranger to the DC Universe, especially Batman. In 2010, Ackles voiced Jason Todd, a.k.a. Red Hood in Batman: Under the Red Hood, which became one of the most beloved DC animated films of all time. Ackles then went on to voice the Dark Knight himself if the two-parter Batman: The Long Halloween. This event was also where Ackles talked about wanting to get cast as Batman in live-action for Gotham Knights, which will star Collins as Harvey Dent, a.k.a. Two-Face.

Whether or not Ackles will get the opportunity to play Batman in a live-action project remains to be seen, although it would be a major deal if it happened. While Ackles’ quip was obviously all in good fun, it would genuinely be interesting to hear what he thinks of The Batman when he sees it. Ackles has made it clear through social media and other interviews that he is a massive Batman fan himself. Not only has he played around in the Caped Crusader’s world more than once, but Ackles’ geek credits actually include owning his own Batman costume. Even if he never plays the Dark Knight in live-action himself, perhaps Ackles will join The Batman franchise as another iconic DC character down the line.
