Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders Characters And Their Game Of Thrones Counterparts

Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders have many things in common in terms of themes. But can some similarities be drawn between the characters too?

While fans are enjoying weekly episodes of the last season of the BBC series, Peaky Blinders, it is fun to compare the series with the mega-popular show, Game of Thrones. Even though Game of Thrones is a medieval fantasy drama and Peaky Blinders is a crime drama, both shows share a lot of common themes. Violence, conspiracies, ambition, and politics are some of the most prominent themes in both shows.

Due to their common themes, their characters also share plenty of similarities. These similarities are so apparent, that the characters of both shows are bounds to be compared.

Linda Shelby & Littlefinger

The fans of Peaky Blinders cannot stand Linda because of the way she wants to manipulate Arthur in the early seasons of the show. She has always wanted to cause a rift in the Shelby family and have Arthur only to herself.

In a similar vein, Littlefinger is a master manipulator and he manipulated Catelyn and Sansa the way Linda manipulated Arthur. He also tries to cause strife with the Starks, turning siblings against each other like Linda does in Peaky Blinders.

Alfie Solomons & Jaime Lannister

Alfie and Jaime both turned from bad to moderately good in their respective shows. They both are morally grey characters, with hardly any principles dictating their actions. While Jaime hated Ned Stark, the protagonist of the first season of Game Of Thrones, Alfie betrayed Thomas Shelby, the protagonist of Peaky Blinders.

They both got a redemption arc and fans developed a soft spot for both of them. They are also both incredibly loyal to their respective clans; Jaime for Lannisters and Alfie for the Solomons family.

Ada Shelby & Arya Stark

Ada is one of the bravest characters of Peaky Blinders and GOT fans are well aware of Arya’s spellbinding courage. But what makes them incredibly similar is the love they have for their families. They both are willing to do a lot for their families.

Ada is always there to take care of her brothers and help them and Tommy relies more on her than any of his other siblings. Similarly, Arya’s major character arc was to avenge her family, which is a testament to the fact that she loved her family the most and would do anything for them.

Lizzie Shelby & Sansa Stark

Lizzie and Sansa, both had interesting character arcs and both became incredibly strong and assertive women towards the latter half of the show. While Lizzie had been manipulated by Tommy Shelby, Sansa, too, has been manipulated by Littlefinger.

Despite their rough beginnings, they managed to do well for themselves. While Lizzie married Tommy Shelby, one of the most powerful men in England and Sansa became the Queen in The North (and one of the best rulers in GOT).

Arthur Shelby & Daenerys Targaryen

Arthur is a hot-headed character and most times, his actions are dictated by anger rather than reason. While Daenerys is smarter than him, she too lets her anger get the best of her. They both do not hesitate at all to kill anyone who may have wronged them in some way.

Arthur needs his family to ground him and to help him see reason. Similarly, Daenerys has always needed her advisors like Jorah and Tyrion to keep her from giving in to her evil urges.

John Shelby & Robb Stark

John Shelby and Robb Stark shared similar fates. John was killed by the enemies of the Shelby family and in the same manner, Robb Stark was killed by the enemies of the Stark family. They both were also much more naive and honorable than their siblings and it can be said that these qualities led them to their deaths.

It can be said they were romantics and loved their partners fiercely. Both their deaths served to propel the character arc of their siblings.

Grace Shelby & Jon Snow

Grace Shelby and Jon Snow both were good and honorable people. They trusted others a bit too much and tend to fall in love with people who had darker sides.

Grace fell in love with Tommy, who is not honorable at all and Jon too fell in love with Daenerys, who became a villain in the final season of Game of Thrones. Also, both Grace and Jon are immensely brave characters. Both of them do not bow down to anyone except people who they feel are worth it.

Oswald Mosley & Cersei Lannister

Cersei Lannister, just like Oswald Mosley, is a schemer and an ambitious person. Both these characters can go to any lengths to get what they want. They both are also incredibly arrogant and want everyone else to submit to them.

Both Cersei and Mosley want to rule their respective countries but they do not care one bit about the people they want to rule. It wouldn’t matter to them who gets killed as long as they achieve their goals. Cersei’s son Tommen died because of her schemes but she didn’t care. Similarly, Moseley’s wife died but he appeared indifferent as he soon got a new mistress.

Thomas Shelby & Tyrion Lannister

Tommy Shelby and Tyrion Lannister are not the most honorable men and they don’t claim to be either. This could be the reason that they both have managed to stay alive for so long in their respective dark worlds.

While Tommy is one of the most intelligent characters on his show, Tyrion is, arguably, the smart character on GOT, using his key knowledge to get out of any situation. They are survivors in every sense of the world and that is why they win the hearts of the fans despite not always being righteous.

Polly Shelby & Varys

While Polly is arguably the wisest character in Peaky Blinders, Varys is the wisest character in Game of Thrones. They both help in keeping the lead characters on the right path.

Polly has been the sounding board for Tommy and his siblings, while Varys made Tyrion realize his true potential and also guided Daenerys for a while. Additionally, both of these characters are reliable, eloquent, and cynical.
