Peaky Blinders will return to BBC One with its season 6 on February 27 in the UK – but when will it be available to watch in the US, and how? Peaky Blinders season 6 was announced as the British crime drama’s final season in January 2021 by creator Steven Knight. Although originally the TV show was supposed to chronicle what happened to the Shelby family in between the two World Wars and last seven seasons, their family’s story will conclude with a final movie, set after the events of the upcoming season 6.
Contrary to the previous season, Peaky Blinders season 5 ended with things looking grim for Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), with his plan to kill fascist politician Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) foiled. Mosley was framed as the main antagonist of season 5, but Peaky Blinders season 6’s trailer shows him as garnering more power and visibility, making him an even more dangerous enemy to Tommy. Peaky Blinders’ final season will also need to focus on whoever betrayed Tommy and thwarted his plan against Mosley, guaranteeing the show’s final episodes will be rife with twists and foes on different sides for Tommy.
Although its release date in the US has not been confirmed yet, Peaky Blinders season 6 will undoubtedly be available on Netflix to stream after its episodes air on BBC One in the UK. While many BBC shows are usually distributed in the US by BBC America, Peaky Blinders stands out as an anomaly. Peaky Blinders’ distribution rights solely belong to Netflix in the US, as they were sold to the streaming giant by the Weinstein Co. and Endemol in 2014, making the show effectively a Netflix Original series, despite being produced by BBC Studios.
Since Netflix’s acquisition of exclusive rights to distribute Peaky Blinders in the US about a month before Peaky Blinders season 2 aired in the UK on BBC Two, the release of the show’s newest seasons on the streaming platform happened within a similar timeframe. Peaky Blinders seasons 2 to 4 were all released on Netflix in the US about a month after the season premiered on the BBC in the UK. Peaky Blinders season 5’s release on Netflix in April 2020 has been the only exception to this until now, having aired in the UK in August-September 2019, therefore more than one or two months before its episodes became available to US viewers.
It doesn’t look like Peaky Blinders season 6 will be an exception to its usual release timeframe. Based on previous seasons’ releases, it can be predicted that the show’s final season will drop on Netflix around March or April 2022. Still, whenever Peaky Blinders season 6 will actually be made available to watch for US viewers on Netflix, it will surely pack a punch.
