The Michelin-Starred chef has a slew of restaurants between Europe and the United States and has hosted several cooking shows in which he gives his professional instruction. Over the years, he’s tasted dish after dish, but there is one that has always stood out — and he’d make it his last meal if he could.
Gordon Ramsay has earned 12 Michelin Stars
Some have argued that celebrity chefs aren’t as talented as they seem. But Gordon Ramsay is one of these so-called “celebrity chefs” that has not only made a name for himself but also has the background and skill to prove it.
Ramsay is one of the highest-awarded chefs in the world, having earned a whopping 16 Michelin stars during his life. Though Stars can come and go, Ramsay currently holds seven, three of which belong to his restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, in London.
Ramsay has taken his talents to the small screen, hosting various competition shows such as Hell’s Kitchen and Masterchef in the United States. Ramsay’s popular show Kitchen Nightmares helped struggling restaurants find a way to succeed.
Ramsay loves Beef Wellington — but would choose roast beef as his last meal
Ramsay’s shows always involve him cooking in some capacity. Whether it’s doing a demo or picking up the pieces after another chef loses control, he’s constantly in the kitchen showing off his talent. The world-renowned chef’s signature dish is none other than beef Wellington, a traditional British dish that consists of a filet wrapped in puff pastry with mushroom and prosciutto.
Beef Wellington might be Ramsay’s most notable dish, but if he were to choose a final meal, that wouldn’t be it. The Michelin chef would actually go for a roast beef with a side of Yorkshire pudding (another British favorite) according to the book “My Last Supper,” which features 50 chefs and their choice for their last meal ever, should they be able to choose. Serious Eats reported that the book also revealed Ramsay’s music choice during such a meal: Keane’s first album.
Ramsay despises certain ingredients and food trends
Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding are two of Ramsay’s favorites, but he also has his share of food and ingredients he despises. The chef hates the use of truffle oil, as it’s often made with chemicals and not real truffle. He says the oil is “the most pungent, ridiculous” ingredient a chef can use, adding that people often use too much of it.
Ramsay also dislikes certain food trends, such as restaurants adding foam to a dish, saying it makes the dishes looks like “toxic scum,” giving less appeal to the plate. That, and the Wagyu beef trend, fire him up. Ramsay has said that Wagyu beef is often treated with “little respect” in the U.S., and the meat deserves much more care than most chefs give.
