Twilight: The 5 Best Relationships (& The 5 Worst)
Twilight is a controversial series, to say the least. Some of the relationships were truly awful — but, there were also some good ones in there!

The Twilight series had a lot of different romantic relationships. Some of these relationships were adorable and well-written while others were weird or even somewhat problematic. While everyone has their favorite ships from the series, there are some couples that are generally perceived more positively than others. While Twilight might not be a super recent franchise, it was such a pop culture moment that it’s hard to forget many of these relationships.
Here are the five best relationships from the Twilight series and the five worst.
10 BEST: JASPER HALE AND ALICE CULLEN

Jasper and Alice were one of the cutest couples from the series. They both were somewhat odd in their own ways, but this is what made them so great. They clearly understood one another and accepted one another for their unique ability and issues. Alice also saved Jasper from the sad life he lived before and brought him into the Cullen family. The two clearly cared about each other a lot, and their relationship was sweet and reciprocal.
9 WORST: BELLA SWAN AND JACOB BLACK
Back when Twilight was in its heyday, the debate about who Bella should be with was strong. There were lots of people on Team Jacob and lots on Team Edward. While at first glance it might seem like these two were all right together, their relationship was rather icky. Jacob could be controlling, and he was rather obsessed with Bella and ironed how she felt. Over time, thankfully, their relationship went back to being more of that of friends or family which was probably for the best.
8 BEST: SAM ULEY AND EMILY

This relationship is a complicated one because the way they got together isn’t that cute. Sam had been dating Leah for three years when he imprinted on Emily. This started their relationship.
Imprinting in and of itself is a strange and problematic issue in the Twilight series. But, putting all of these issues aside, the two did seem to genuinely love each other and have a healthy, committed relationship. Emily also helped look out for the wolf pack and clearly was an integral member of the group. However, the relationship would have been even better without all the imprinting stuff.
7 WORST: SAM ULEY AND LEAH CLEARWATER
The story of Sam and Leah’s relationship is a sad one. Leah and Sam dated for many years, and she was really in love with him. Sam treated Leah badly even before he imprinted on Emily since he couldn’t tell her about his turning into a werewolf. The other issue with their relationship is how the series explained that Leah was bitter and angry because of Sam. It seemed like her whole character development was hinged on this relationship and made her seem weak and annoying. This whole relationship made Sam seem like a major jerk, and Leah definitely deserve better.
6 BEST: EMMETT CULLEN AND ROSALIE HALE

To outsiders, the Cullens appeared like a family, albeit a strange one. It is sort of strange that the family was made up of three different couples and then Edward, but it’s not the weirdest thing about relationships in the series.
Emmett and Rosalie were a couple that had a lot of things in common. They were both the type of people that act before thinking, and they were both perceived as attractive, physical people. These two even share the same birthday. Their relationship was overall a positive one, and the two supported each other.
5 WORST: MIKE NEWTON AND JESSICA STANLEY
Both of these characters in the book were rather annoying, so it’s no wonder they weren’t the most likable couple. Mike was a character that always tried to flirt with Bella and just seemed like kind of a jerk all around.
Jessica was never a very loyal friend. These two characters were both fundamentally insecure and never seemed that loyal to one another, especially in the movies. Jessica never got ever that Bella ended up with Edward, and Mike was way too invested in the vampires he saw at Bella and Edward’s wedding.
4 BEST: CHARLIE SWAN AND SUE CLEARWATER

This pairing is one that is especially sweet. These two didn’t get together until Breaking Dawn, but when they did it was hard not to root for them. Their relationship helps Charlie cope with the death of his friend Billy Black and gives Charlie someone to spend his life with. Sue is familiar with the vampire and werewolf world, so she can also be a source of wisdom in this area of Charlie’s life. Overall, they seemed like a loving, healthy couple that could bring each other a lot of happiness.
3 WORST: JACOB BLACK AND RENESMEE CULLEN
This relationship is definitely one that most fans thought was weird. This relationship took the whole imprinting thing to a new, gross level since Jacob imprinted on Renesmee when she was just a child. Of course, the books explain that the imprinting isn’t romantic at these stages, but it’s still really weird. It’s made even weirder by the fact that Jacob was in love with Bella for so long and then ends up with her daughter. Even if his feelings for Renesmee are brotherly when she’s a child, they will eventually develop into romantic feelings which is just gross.
2 BEST: CARLISLE & ESME CULLEN

These two were definitely one of the most stable couples in the entire series. There really isn’t anything about them that is problematic, and they’ve been in an established relationship for a long time.
Their commitment to each other and their wisdom allows them to provide a home and family for their adopted children. Overall, they are a sweet, loving couple.
1 1.WORST: BELLA SWAN AND EDWARD CULLEN
While Bella and Edward might be the central couple in Twilight, their relationship isn’t necessarily one to emulate. Many fans have pointed out that there are many problematic elements to their relationship, especially early on. Edward displays many controlling behaviors such as the time he messes up her truck so she can’t go see Jacob. Bella is so obsessed with Edward throughout the series that it seems very unhealthy. While things seem to equal out with them after Bella becomes a vampire, their relationship has more issues than positives.
