Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus reunited as a team this week to raise money for charity. This was a virtual get together, of course. As they chatted on Instagram Live, Alexander let her in on a secret that he’s kept to himself for a very long time.
She seemed as stunned as we were to hear the news which somehow just came to the surface.
A full 21 years later, we’ve learned that Jason Alexander was offered a lot of money to spill secrets about the Season Finale of Seinfeld!
Let’s put this in perspective for everyone… 21 years ago, entertainment news didn’t just “leak” the way it does today. We have the internet and social media! In our current society, information can be broadcast to millions of followers with just the click of a button. Back in 1999, access to technology was much more limited, and the release of information was a much bigger deal.
We also can’t forget the effect that Seinfeld had in society and on pop culture as a whole – this finale was iconic in many ways.
A True Test Of Honor
It looks like Alexander passed the test!
His publicist was the culprit, asking him to describe the details of the finale and to spill the beans on who would be appearing on the last show. Daily Mail reports that he refused to cave in to the lucrative offer, but he stopped short of declaring what the amount of the financial offer actually was.
So what was Alexander’s reaction when he was asked to leak info? “I said They’ll kill us,” you know, how can you do that?” Louis-Dreyfus added, I hope you fired that publicist.”
The Finale Was A Huge Deal
Clearly the details of the finale were worth a lot of money, and generated a ton of interest among fans around the world. However the cast of Seinfeld just really didn’t comprehend the fuss, or the impact the show had on people’s lives.
Cosmopolitan reports that “Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were both shocked at what a big deal the Seinfeld series finalewas, saying the obsession during production blew their minds.”
